Children
What struck me being with these children was how loving many of them were and how much they need from adults. Listening to little children talk takes some adjusting. They’re new to language so I have to be very patient and ask questions so I can try to understand what they mean using the words they know.
It’s like a language barrier to some degree. I have to keep things simple in how I look at stuff when I talk to kids. It’s more about being a witness and guiding them with what they’re doing. It’s more than listening, it’s hearing what they mean. They’re taking in so much information, and they want to get it right, whatever that means.
A smile and a hug can make all the difference in a child’s day. Maybe in some adult lives, too, but to see a child’s face light up in sheer joy is a heartwarming experience. I can’t help but smile when a child is captivated in happiness. It’s easy to love a stranger when a child comes into my life. It makes me want to be a mom even more.
Blessings!
