It Feels The Same
She and the trainer both said that we shouldn’t be concerned about how limber we are when we stretch because the more we stretch the more limber we will get. Then she said something that struck a very deep chord in me. She said, “My body may look different in this position than yours does, but inside I’m feeling the same thing you are.”
She was referring to how muscles feel when they’re stretching, but what struck me was the concept. What looks different on the outside feels the same on the inside. I should keep that in mind when I look at other people. I don’t know where I got the ability to compare myself to others, but if it feels the same how it looks shouldn’t really matter.
It’s funny to write that because I live in LA where looks are so important. Back in the 80’s, Billy Crystal had a character he portrayed who said that it doesn’t matter how you feel, it matters how you look. He had a point. Billions of dollars are spent every year on beauty products. Most of what we’re sold promises to make us look good to each other.
I guess the idea could be turned around. Maybe looking good won’t feel much different to me on the inside, but if it feels the same, I might as well look good while I’m feeling it.
Blessings!
