Including Others

I heard a man talking and he mentioned that it takes no courage at all to exclude others, but it takes a tremendous amount of courage to include others and welcome them into your life no matter where they are from or what they are about. I agree with him. It’s easy to include people I understand and like who I think will like me.

It’s not that easy for me to include people in my perception of myself and the world who are living out a totally different reality than I am, especially one that may not be all that friendly. I also find that the language barrier I run into when I’m not dealing with people who speak English makes it even harder. Even if they seem nice, there’s not much to say.

While I do my best to be accepting and patient in my life, I find that my own limitations and ideas about things can make including others challenging. I’m a person who focuses a lot on spiritual principles and I do make an effort to be aware of what I’m thinking and how I use words. When I’m around energy that is harsh, I tend to back away.
