Vocal Sweetening

My producer, Robert Eibach, and I were in the studio tonight sweetening the vocal track for my song “Don’t Ask Me Why”. It becomes more apparent to me when I work with Robert how little I know about what I’m doing musically with my music. For example, I don’t know what the notes are in my melodies, they just sound right for the melody.

I don’t know what all of the chords are in my songs and I usually don’t know what key I’m in, although some musicians that I’ve played with have told me so I know some of them now. Robert told me that some of the notes I use in my songs don’t make sense musically but they work. I guess there’s an advantage to not knowing the rules.

It’s really cool to hear how nice my voice sounds after a track is sweetened. I’m excited to work with the recordings when they’re done so I can learn to sing my songs in a new way. When I’m playing my music, I’m concentrating on a lot of things in addition to singing like playing the guitar right, keeping rhythm, and engaging with the audience.
