Christmas Spirit

What I like about Christmas time, other than all the pretty lights, is that people get focused on giving and thinking about others. It’s a time when I see gratitude and appreciation expressed more collectively than at any other time of the year. Even people who don’t like each other very much can wish each other well for the holidays.

That’s huge. We can say “Thank You” to people for being in our lives and making a difference to us. Sometimes all a person needs to get through the day is hearing that what they do matters to somebody. In an age of mass media and hype, the small things done by the silent Heroes in our lives can get overshadowed.

Like the people who provide for others in service jobs, the people who pick up the trash, transport goods, stock shelves in stores and come up with fabulous ideas to make things easier in the world get noticed and acknowledged. Not everyone enjoys this time of year, but in the deepest places of the heart, the spirit of the holidays nurtures us all.

Blessings!
