American Tuna

Usually when I shop at Whole Foods, I buy the 99 cent cans of tuna. But when I was in the store yesterday one of the fisherman, Barry Diehl, from American Tuna, was there with his step daughter giving out samples of American Tuna. I never would’ve believed that I’d want to pay $5.99 for a can of albacore tuna before I talked with Barry.

American Tuna is a company of 6 families who believe that sustainable fishing is an important practice. That’s why they fish with poles, not nets, when they approach a school of fish. Barry told me they catch maybe 200-300 fish from a school of about 10,000 fish, which yields about a ton of fish a day during the fishing season.

American Tuna only cooks their tuna once and cans the fish in its natural oil, rich in Omega 3’s. The tuna is sashimi grade gourmet albacore which tastes great and takes awhile to break apart once you get it out of the can. It doesn’t even look like the same food as a 99 cent can of tuna when you open the can. Check out www.americantuna.com.

Blessings!
