A Mouse In The House

This morning when I woke up, I found my mouse’s cage door open with no mouse inside. Shasha, the mouse, was rescued from a cat’s mouth when she was a baby and was given to me a couple of weeks later. She’s a very sweet little mouse. And apparently Sasha is very smart, too. She managed to open the door and let herself out.

I haven’t managed to locate her yet. There are some places where she might be that are hard to get to like behind the refrigerator, under the stove. I’m not strong enough to move the refrigerator and I wouldn’t want to hurt her if she was back there trying to move the refrigerator. I left her cage open with food and water inside in case she gets hungry.

My dilemma now is what to do for her. If she doesn’t show up after awhile, I’m not sure if I should go on a serious mouse hunt, or presume she found a way to get outside. If she does come back to her cage, I’m not sure whether or not I should find a place to release her in the wild or just secure her cage better. I hope she’s happy wherever she is.
