Heat

My sister called today to let me know that, so far, more people have died from the heat in LA than Israeli soldiers have died in this current war. That was telling. It’s starting to cool down, a few degrees each day, and that’s nice. There have been power outages. I don’t always remember that the Valley is a desert climate. I’m remembering now.

I do prefer the heat to the cold, but in moderation. I’ve noticed that by 4p I’m ready for a nap. I eat a lot of salt in my food and drink a lot of water, but I’m still wiped out. I don’t think of the heat as a problem, but I am making some adjustments. I’m shopping later at night when I can so I’m not out in the mid-day sun. And I’m being quiet when I can.

Air conditioning is right up there in my top favorite things list along with indoor plumbing and electricity. Cold watermelon and lemonade have become staples in my refrigerator. It’s during the summer months that give me an appreciation for my being a night owl. It’s wonderful to feel the breeze in the night air.

Blessings!
Laura

I'm in Houston. Here it is as much the humidity as the heat. The moaquitoes will carry you off. Oddly enough I like a hot cup of joe when I'm out late trying to cool off.
