Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukah

It’s nice that the first night of Hanukah and Christmas are on the same day this year. Jews and Christians are celebrating in harmony this year. I remember growing up in the Midwest. Christmas was a big day to go see a movie at the theater. There wasn’t much else for Jewish people to do. All the stores were closed and most of the restaurants, too.

In LA there are some stores that are open for a few hours on Christmas for the real last minute shoppers and the people who forgot to pick up something they needed for the dinner that people are showing up for. Hanukah starts at sundown so the Judaica stores will most likely be open, too. They’re usually open on Sundays.

I like the quiet on Christmas. A lot of people have left town, especially if they have kids. With winter break, they can get away and find new things for the whole family to do. It’s very peaceful when people are focused on love, giving gifts and enjoying great food and laughter with one another rather than the normal rush of being on the go.

Blessings!
Laura
