Somewhere

For the past couple of days a song from the musical, West Side Story, has been playing in my head and I’ve been singing it, too. It’s basically a more modern day Romeo and Juliet type story in a clash of racism. The guy gets killed in gang violence and the song the girl sings to him as he is dying hits home for me on many levels.

The lyric, “There’s a place for us, somewhere, a place for us. Peace and quiet and open air waits for us somewhere”, starts the song. Later it goes on to say, “We’ll find a new way of living. We’ll find a way of forgiving, somewhere.” I have that hope for humanity. I hold that space for humanity. And I pray in my heart for humanity.

Maybe I’m just tired of reading the same stories in the news. Every year of my life in every city I have ever lived in it seems like only the names and the faces change in the headlines of what is being presented to me about the world. I want new language, new angles, new ideas and perspectives because I want something new to be in my story.

Blessings!
