Cockroach Brooches
In today’s LA Times I read about a jeweler who is making brooches with live cockroaches. I wrote about not having a love for cockroaches awhile back and wondered how I would develop a liking for the little creatures. Apparently people are excited about owning these little jeweled pets. They sell for anywhere between $40 - $80.
The roaches are decked out with swarvoski crystals and have a little chain attached to a pin on them so they can crawl around on the person wearing the roach. Only males are used because females will bite. If the roach is upset it will hiss. It is recommended that they are stored in a dark box when they aren’t being worn.
It’s important to remember to feed the little guys even though they can go 4 days without food or water. I wonder if having a pet cockroach brooch will attract other cockroaches into a person’s home. As far as the creep-me-out factor, I’m sure they’re big hits. Even though I’m a bling bling girl at heart, I don’t know if being a brooch is cool for the roach.
