Live Rehearsals

My mom and I were talking one day about me getting to the next level in my career. She said to me that in order to get to the second step I have to be at the first one. The majority of showcase gigs in LA don’t pay anything. Artists can sell CDs and if they bring in enough friends, they sometimes get paid something. It’s a half hour show, they provide sound.

I don’t mind that I’ve been playing showcase gigs in LA. I’ve benefited a great deal having a live audience to perform for. It’s helped me to work things out, get more comfortable making changes in my performance style and has developed my chops differently. Typically, I don’t drive more than 10 minutes to get to a gig either.

I’m looking forward to the next step where my manager will be booking my shows, negotiating what I’m being paid and dealing with the promotion side of the business for me. I’m better suited to being creative in writing, singing and design concepts. I’m glad that the next step is showing up now. I’ve worked a lot to be ready for it.

Blessings!
Laura
