Rescue Me

I was at the Television Academy tonight in North Hollywood to see a panel presentation for the TV show Rescue Me. It’s now promotion time for the television industry and people who are voting members of the Academy have started getting their DVDs to view for the Emmy’s. I know this because my friend is a voting member.

What I like about panels and interviews with writers, directors and actors is that the banter about what goes on behind the scenes is fascinating and funny. Every project has its own process of development, studio politics, and the chemistry which ultimately brings in the mysterious magic that shows up somehow to make a hit out of an idea.

From the conversation presented tonight, it was obvious that Rescue Me is close to the heart of Denis Leary, Producer, Co-Writer and Starring Actor of the series. I didn’t know that he grew up in New York’s fire fighter community and one of his cousins, who was a fireman, died on the job. He and his writing partner Peter Tolan were very funny tonight.

Blessings!
