Pick Up Gigs
I’m playing a pick up gig at Universal Bar & Grill before I go over to the studio to work on my CD. I’m looking forward to getting some french fries before my set and catching with my friend, Sheena Metal, who books me there. Pick up gigs are fun for me. They keep my chops fresh and make the week a little more interesting.
Usually pick up gigs come in when I’m feeling discouraged. A lot of what I do as an artist is just what I need to do and isn’t in the mainstream of anything. With all the bombardment of people in the news, being an artist at my level sometimes seems futile. The entertainment industry isn’t for the faint at heart and it has torn people apart.
That doesn’t change what I need to do. It just makes doing it more daunting than I’d like it to be. A comic friend of mine said that he didn’t know how people manage to make it in the business. I heard one media expert say “Somehow” is how they do it. I guess it’s about not giving up and not knowing where things will come from when they do.

Where Music Meets Artistry
