The Departed

I went to a screening of “The Departed” with a friend. I’m not big on shoot em’ up mafia cop films, but this one was very well done. The acting was great, the directing was wonderful, the editing was brilliant and the script was really good considering the subject matter. I closed my eyes when the violence and gore got to be too much for me.

The movie will probably do very well. The characters were well developed and really fun to watch in some scenes. I was surprised at how many people got shot in the head. I didn’t count how many people died that way, but the movie may have set a record for that. They had the special effects down really well after all the practice they got.

It was almost disappointing to me that I enjoyed the film because violence isn’t something that I like to see in the world. Seeing actors on screen playing these roles can be entertaining, but the real life violence that people engage in can be so cruel. I guess violence has been prevalent in most times in history. That doesn’t mean I have to like it.
