Impact

I was with some 8th graders today talking about goals. Not the kind of goals about outside stuff. The conversation was centered on making goals for becoming better people in the world. The kind of goals that can be made about being aware of the impact we have on the people around us and seeing what our energy does when it is brought into a room.

I guess the motivation for me discussing this subject with them was that I think if someone had sat me down at that age and told me the things that I know now it could have saved me a lot of unhappiness. It was good to tell these kids what caused me trouble in how I was interacting with people and what I know to do now to have better experiences.

What was good about it to me is that I was being really honest with them. People in general respond to the truth. Teenagers will stop what they’re doing on a dime when the truth is given to them with a pure heart. Kids are generally struggling when they hit Jr. High and High School. That’s when they need to hear what will work.
