Busy Like Bees

I met a bee keeper last night. He’s a third generation bee keeper and takes care of between 600-800 hives, depending on the year. He said he really enjoys it. He said that bee communities in hives do have their own personalities, like a collective consciousness. When he opens up a hive he can tell how the community is doing by the look and smell.

To him, people are a lot like insects. He said the way we set up our housing, our stores, the roadways we use, and how we come and go places is very insect-like. When he’s in a grocery store looking at how food is stored and gathered by individuals it reminds him of the bees in their hives. He said we aren’t that different from bees in how we do things.

We even have suicide bombers, which is similar to how bees can behave. A bee will attack a perceived enemy knowing it will die, no matter how big the enemy is. He said that sometimes he wonders if our world is just a big hive with “keepers” taking care of us the way he takes care of the bees in his hives.

Blessings!
