Los Angeles based singer/songwriter, Laura Cohn, is recruiting people to send prayers to people who need them, via her weekly newsletter, mainly because, “when people make it a daily practice to be kind to one another their lives improve dramatically,” Cohn said, and she challenges anyone to try to prove her wrong.

Cohn encourages her readers to enjoy who they are in their life and to care about others. Requesting prayers for people started when Laura Cohn asked her subscribers to pray for some friends of hers who were going through difficulty. People responded with prayer requests of their own. After that Cohn decided that she should devote a space in her newsletter to prayers for other people.
Cohn named the prayer space “BE KIND TO STRANGERS” as a twist on “Don’t talk to strangers”, a saying that she was raised with.
