Staying Real

I was talking to a real estate agent and she told me that she learned a long time ago that in real estate negotiations there are no emergencies. There isn’t anything that is “life or death” about it. She deals with people who are emotionally charged that can be highly reactive, demanding and irrational. She earns her sainthood on a daily basis.

A friend of mine gave me a print out from the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas: Rules for a Happy Marriage. ‘Rule #2- Never yell at each other unless the house is on fire.’ I know that not everyone has heard of that rule because people yell at each other quite a bit in different situations, especially if they aren’t getting their way.

I like it when reminders show up in my life so I can be aware of how I’m treating other people. I’m not perfect by any means, but it is my intention to be kind, supportive and realistic in how I approach what I’m doing. If I get caught up in how I want the world to be and what I think is right and how I think people should act, I’m usually in my ego.
