The 8th Wonder of the World

I went up The Palm Springs Tram today. It’s a stunning ride up 6,000 ft. in Chino Canyon to the top of the mountain in Mount San Jacinto State Park. I didn’t know it was the 8th Wonder of the World until I was on the mountain and watched the little movie about the tram there. It made the trip even more meaningful.

Aside from the beauty of being in the mountains and how great it felt to be at 8,000 ft, again, (Telluride is 8,750 ft. and I loved living there), how this tram was built is impressive. So much so that it’s an historical civil engineering landmark. It took 23,000 helicopter missions over 26 months to build 4 of the towers and the Mountain Station.

A guy named Francis F. Crocker got the idea to build the tram in the 1930’s because he loved the canyon and wanted people like you and me to be able to be there. It was almost 30 years before his dream was completed on September 12, 1963. I’m glad he didn’t give up on his dream. I loved being at the top of the mountain today. Thank you, Francis!

Blessings!
