Under 21

I was at Michael’s Pub tonight and one band that showed up to play was comprised of musicians that were all under 21. I remember when I was in High School. I don’t remember looking that young in High School, but that was just my perception of things. The guys were pretty bummed that they couldn’t stay to play the gig. Michael’s is a bar.

I asked Gypsy Black, the lead singer of Elegant Bastards, the guy who books the place, where High School bands can play in town. He said there aren’t many places. There are a few clubs that will do all ages shows. Mostly, High School bands play private parties when they can. I don’t know if colleges book High School bands.

It’s kind of funny to me that there aren’t many places where these kids can develop their chops in LA. This is the place where the industry is always on the look out for the next 15-21 yr. old hit wonder. Most music producers who are looking for talent won’t even talk to anyone close to 30 yrs. old. The way things are strike me as odd sometimes.

Blessings!

I know it's weird to see 16 year olds driving. I always think "did I look that young?"
