Saying Nice Things

Have you ever noticed that when people say “nice” things they get in a better mood than if they say “angry” things? I’ve also noticed that when I say things that are upbeat, fun, and happy in how I describe things, the person I’m talking to gets a lift in their energy. It’s especially fun when I describe something that’s not so great in a positive way.

That’s where a lot of humor comes in my day. I had someone talking to me about a person they called a “pain in the ass to deal with”. My response was that I preferred to use different words to describe the person. She laughed and wanted to know what words I would use that would be nicer. I was happy to laugh with her when I answered.

I told her that I thought of him as a guy who knew what he wanted, the way he wanted it and also was very clear in how he wanted it. I continued to let her know that it made dealing with him pretty cut and dry because he was so specific I could tell what would work and what wouldn’t. Then I could feel her tension subside with a smile in her voice.
