Illegal Immigrants

I find it funny that our country takes issue about people coming to live and work in the United States from other countries and calls them illegal. This country was founded by a bunch of people who showed up on boats, stole the land from the people who were living here, killed many of them, moved the locals to reservations and told them to stay put.

It seems ridiculous to me that our country holds such an arrogant attitude towards people who come here for a better life, work hard, and maintain a strong sense of community and culture for themselves and contribute to the economy. What is our problem? These people aren’t doing what our forefathers did when they showed up here.

I wonder how many Americans speak more than one language. For the most part, these immigrants learn to speak English and appreciate our American lifestyle. They are considerate and grateful for the opportunities they are given here to build a better life for themselves and their families. Maybe we should rethink how we’re treating them.
