BB King's

The people who work at a venue can really make performing at a club a wonderful experience or not. Tonight was a lucky night for me at BB King’s at Universal City Walk. The girl that booked me, Raven, was very nice. After my set, she thanked me for playing and invited me to call her if I ever want to come back to perform there again.

While that may sound like a normal thing, for LA, it’s refreshing. I’ve had some “promoters” get really ugly with me when they didn’t have their own clientele showing up for the entertainment they scheduled. I’m an artist, not a promoter. That’s why I’ve found rooms to play here where my job entertaining the audience is the priority.

The pay-to-play deal that started long before I moved to LA made the music scene here a hit or miss. In other cities, clubs listen to demo tapes or audition a group before they book a band. They have a reputation to uphold for providing great music so you have to be decent. That’s why they have regular customers. They do their job. I do mine.

Blessings!
Laura
