New Day, Same Issues

I’ve been reading comments from a folk music group online about declining show attendance across the country. It’s interesting to hear that many performers that were drawing sell out numbers now barely fill half a room. It’s sad to hear that people aren’t going out to support live music as much. Many reasons are being noted.

Higher gas prices, increased family overhead, more responsibilities and less time seem to be the issues. It reminded me of something I read in a book that was written in the 1500’s. There was a time when I was reading a lot of orthodox literature from the middle ages. The middle ages saw some of the greatest luminary rabbis that have ever lived.

The book is called Ahavath Chesed, which means loving kindness, and focuses on the importance of charity. It was noted that while businesses were struggling with rising costs, employees wanting to earn more money and customers wanting to pay less for things it was still important to be charitable, support the community and those in need. How is it that we still have the same “problems” as people did 500 years ago?

Blessings!
